Daily and sub-daily in situ meteorological data from Svalbard

The Polish Polar Station Hornsund (77∘00′N 15 ∘33′E) is located on the northern shore of Hornsundfjord on Wedel Jarlsberg Land in SW Spitsbergen. Warm and humid air transported by extratropical cyclones from lower latitudes and warm West Spitsbergen current have significant influence on the climate, which is mild and maritime, considering its high latitude. The Hornsund meteorological station (WMO 01003; Fig. 2.12.1) conducts year-round observations and measurements since its reestablishment in July 1978. It is located on a marine terrace at 10 m a.s.l., 300 m from the shore. Meteorological time series from Hornsund station can be obtained from the database of the Institute of Geophysics Polish Academy of Sciences. Meteorological data in the form of SYNOP are sent every hour to WMO database.
